James Allan pewter teapot Victoriam

Victorian Pewter teapot made by James Allan Pewter teapot is made of Britannia metal, a pewter alloy used in fabricating from sheet rather than casting. It was made in Sheffield, England, by James Allan, who was active using just his full name in his mark around 1855-72, though he had begun working as J Allan & Co around 1849. He was fairly prolific, so his wares are encountered quite often. 1015 is simply the pattern (design) number. The drooping flower finial is commonly seen on Sheffield Britannia metal tea and coffee pots of the third quarter of the 19th Century. At the time this pot was made, Allan's workshop was on Johnson Lane in Sheffield; a quick search with Google Maps suggests the address no longer exists, perhaps swept away by Sheffield's inner-city redevelopment in the mid 20th Century.
